2014 J Class Regatta Palma

In 2014 I made my second trip to Palma to watch the J Class. Again 5 yachts were precent, Velsheda,Ranger, Lionheart, Hanuman and Rainbow. 2014 was remarkable for the last day of the regatta when the yachts had a spectacular beat into big seas in the bay of Palma followed by the most remarkable run right across the bay. To see yachts over 130 foot on deck surfing was incredible. The chase boat I was in was certainly lost in the hollows of the seas screening the decks from view. It was certainly an adrenaline fuelled race. Another memory that sicks in my mind is the sight of Ranger and Hanuman beam, rail down beam on beam beating against a good sea sending spray above their bows to the windward mark. Hanuman is a replica of Endeavour 11, so this really took me back to the 1937 America’s Cup between Ranger and Endeavour 11.
